History of the Association for Survivors of the Shubenacadie Indian Residential School

Nora Bernard began locating survivors of the Shubenacadie Indian Residential School in 1987. In 1995, the Association of Survivors of the Shubenacadie Residential School was formed. By 1998, the list of survivors grew to over 900 registered members.

In December 1995, the Board began to hold Healing Circle gatherings throughout the territory on a regular basis, and survivors attended these Healing Circles. The Board of Directors & Program Staff have made the Healing Circles available and are still continuing on as usual.
